Choosing
a diamond for your wedding ring TOP
 |
1. Round:
The most popular modern cut is the round diamond, officially
called Round Brilliant. It has 58 facets which reflect maximum light
and sparkle. More than 75% of all diamonds sold are round diamonds.
|
|
 |
2. Princess:
Extremely popular in recent years, the princess cut diamond
has refractive properties almost equal to the round brilliant. Perfectly
square, or ever-so-slightly rectangular, the princess is the preferred
square cut shape over radiant. |
|
 |
3. Emerald:
This elegant cut is typically reserved for larger diamonds
of higher clarity and color, because the step-like faceting provides
less opportunity to mask inclusions or imperfections of lower grades. |
|
 |
4. Radiant:
The radiant cut diamond is essentially an emerald cut, but
with more facets, which gives it increased fire and brilliance. It
has more facets than a princess cut diamond and the corners are trimmed
like the emerald shape. It produces virtually as much brilliance as
the round brilliant cut, and was first seen on the market in 1976.
Popularity of the radiant cut has jumped dramatically in the last
few years. |
|
 |
5. Asscher:
The Asscher is, in essence, a square emerald cut with 57
facets. Like the emerald cut, its step-like faceting provides less
opportunity to mask inclusions or imperfections. It is quickly becoming
a favorite. |
|
 |
6. Marquise:
Named after the Marquise de Pompadour, this dramatic, elongated
diamond shape is stunning when cut within the desired parameters of
approximately 2 to 1—length to width ratio. |
|
 |
7. Oval:
The luxurious oval shaped diamond is the most brilliant of
all the fancy shaped diamonds because its shape is nearest to the
round. Stunning by itself or as a 3-stone anniversary ring with 2
matching oval stones on the side. |
|
 |
8.
Pear: Also referred to
as the tear-drop shaped diamond. When set in a ring, the point of
the diamond is typically worn facing outward to lengthen the appearance
of the finger. Also a great choice for pendants! |
|
 |
9. Heart:
Heart shaped diamonds are feminine and delicate. This shape
is very difficult to cut and often hard to find. Some people prefer
a heart shape diamond for sentimental purposes. |
|
 |
10.
Trillion: The trillion
shape diamond has 50 facets and was developed in the 1950’s.
Trillions have a very large surface area and often appear much larger
than they actually weigh. |
Ring
sizing - How to find the perfect fit! TOP
Make sure the ring is comfortable when it's on your
finger. Relax your hand to see if your finger bulges on either side of
the sizer. If so, it's too small, so try the next larger size. When you
push the ring up from the underneath side of your finger, there should
be a small air space between the ring and the top of your finger. It is
NOT important that the ring sizer slides easily over your knuckle! When
a ring fits properly it should slide on easily, but will resist just a
bit when coming off, even taking 2-3 seconds to get back over the knuckle.
This is normal, and especially common with men, who typically have larger
knuckles. If you size your ring to your knuckle, it will be too big on
your finger. More sizing mistakes are made ordering rings too large than
too small.
Your finger size will change slightly throughout
the day, depending on temperature, activity, etc. Fingers tend to be a
little puffy in the morning, they shrink a little when cold and expand
slightly when hot, but typically settle into a normal size during the
day. For this reason we recommend that you measure your finger during
normal temperatures and at the end of the day when your fingers are most
normal. You will want your ring to fit perfectly and be able to be removed
easily at this time.
Please remember that the wider your wedding band
is, the tighter it will fit. Our free sizers are approximately 4mm wide,
but if you plan to purchase a wedding band that is extra wide--like 7mm
or 8mm--you should order comfort-fit styles 1/4 size larger and non-comfort-fit
styles 1/2 size larger than the size of your favorite sizer. If in doubt,
choose the smaller size. Remember, more sizing mistakes are made by ordering
rings too large rather than too small.
Lastly, if your new wedding band arrives and initially
seems to be a little too large or too small, we suggest you wear it for
a few days to get used to it before exchanging it for a different size.
Different activities and temperatures throughout the day cause our hands
and fingers to constantly change, so it's normal to have a ring feel tight
sometimes and loose other times--often in the same day! Wearing your new
band for a few days will help you better determine if an exchange is necessary.
Proper ring sizing is more of a personal preference than a perfect science,
so even after following all of these helpful hints, sometimes the ring
still won't fit perfectly. Don't stress! We are happy to size your ring
for you within 30 days.
A couple of notes:
Many wedding bands are available in a comfort-fit
style, which means extra metal is used to make the inside of the band
slightly domed, resulting in a very comfortable fit. Although comfort-fit
wedding bands are more expensive than non comfort-fit bands, we strongly
recommend them for widths of 5mm and wider. On widths of 4mm or less,
the comfort-fit advantage is not as noticeable. The comfort-fit is especially
recommended for men, because it is easier to squeeze over a large knuckle
when putting your ring on or taking it off, and it's much more comfortable
to wear once it's on.
Because of the unique properties of titanium it
is not possible to re-size the solid titanium bands; therefore, please
take great care when sizing your finger for a titanium wedding band.
